J-Horror: The Enigma of Amgiara Fault

The Enigma of Amgiara Fault was a Japanese horror manga that I heard about years ago, and I always wanted to read it but never got around to it. I’ve seen other shows and media reference this work, such as Steven Universe. But this has always interested me.
When I was reading this, what creeped me out the most was the moment someone slipped into their hole. They neatly slipped into a human-shaped hole. And slowly, they were moving forward in the cave, sliding down until their bodies were contorted and stretched to death. There’s a trope in horror films where a character does something strange or something that moves the plot, and the only real explanation is that they’re in a horror film. So it’s a wonder why people are actively trying to find “their” holes and go into them. But the holes are actually drawing them the people to them.
There’s no logical reason for the holes. There’s no lore or folktale that explains how or why they’ve formed. They’re just there. The only form of explanation is told in Owaki’s nightmares, and even this is weirdly distorted from what the truth could actually be. But the nightmares also added foreshadowing to the horrifying end that we wouldn’t have expected.
